How do you download torrent files?

Postby ostara » Wed Jul 09, 2008 9:52 am

I have no idea how to make the files work from bt.etree and if that's where everyone is posting the sets could someone please help? Do you need to download something to convert them? The faq is making no sense to me!

You need to first download and install the bit torrent software. There are many and available often for free. I use bit tornado. There are links at etree and on google. After it is installed you can download torrents. If there are seeders online (people uploading the files) the bit torrent software will connect and it will start downloading the .flac files into a folder along with text and data files. Winamp and others will play flacs, but I convert them to wave (.wav) files using flac frontend decoder or some other software (google flac frontend). Itunes and newer media players play wave files excellently.

The key is, the more people downloading or uploading the show, the faster it will work. If you try to download old shows with few or no people seeding it, it will either not work or work so slow you may not notice it. It may take days. Patentience is the key for many shows. However, immediately after a fest so many people are accessing the files it goes fast. Good luck don't give up and retry when it fails!

PM me if you need more help.

Thanks for trying to help, but apparently I am not technologically advanced enough to figure this out. I was able to download the software Vuze on my work computer (which I could be fired for), and then the music files did show up on my computer, but Flac Frontend couldn't convert them (and I've used it on that computer before) and winamp wouldn't play them. Now with my mac I cannot figure out how to download Vuze for mac. It just lists a bunch of files when I click on the mac option, and none of them say which is the one you need.

Please, please to make the music available to people like me, could you please put it on Archive or something like that. That is so easy to use and I can even download them as mp3s quickly since I'll probably only listen on my ipod anyway.

Not only you need one of Bittoreent clients like µTorrent - from www.utorrent.com , but you should think over hiding your torrent activity by surfing anonymously. It is the only way to protect yourself against possible direct or indirect copyright infringement and p2p lawsuits.
Everything you download online is visible. ISP’s can track your activities, terminate your membership, and report you to authorities.

Recently, a U.S. Copyright Group filed suit against 25,000 anonymous BitTorrent users whose IPs allegedly downloaded a copy of the film The Hurt Locker. The Copyright Group demanded between $1,000 and $3,000 from alleged violators. They threatened to sue those who would not settle for up to $150,000.

One of the best ways to download anonymously is either using VPNs or SSH tunnels+ proxy together with a small desktop client application.
SSH protocol is a secure tunnel to one of the multiple servers. You can select either a specific server or set the settings to enable the random selection of the server whenever the application starts.
After that, all the data that you receive or transmit is encrypted.

All operations involving the torrent network will take place by using an IP address of a server that is located at the other end of the world. Logging on does not happen on the same servers, so the user can be assured of his security and anonymity.

What you can try at the beginning is simple and easy to install applications like PirateRay.com , torrentprivacy.com, etc
